The thing that bugs me about the Olympics is the environmental impact. Athletes, IOC members, media and sponsors flew in from all over the world. There is a fleet of vehicles to drive athletes and IOC officials around and all of the media and sponsors rented cars. Vanoc alone, rented out more then four thousand cars. Also snow was trucked in from Manning because there is no snow at Cyprus and then dropped from helicopters on to the course. I think that I am the only one bugged by the environmental cost of the games. The media has not explored this angle, although they have printed lots of stories about homelessness. (Not that homelessness isn’t a serious issue, too.) I guess if I didn’t think different than the mainstream media I wouldn’t read Geez magazine.

I agree, Anne. Not to mention the 100,000 trees cut down to make way for mountain venue development and expansion of the sea to sky highway from Vancouver to Whistler. The media has not devoted enough attention to the environmental impacts of these Games.
