Too cool: The harder you try to look different. . .

Parade of cliches

1 Barren, forlorn, sparse setting. Maybe a brick wall urban decay background, maybe a wind-swept desert. Authenticity is bankable in the music industry and the sparse look hints at unadorned, raw, gritty, authentic creativity. It’s an appealing aesthetic, but what about just being yourselves; that’s authentic.

2 Tough. Yeah, yeah. Get over it noise boys. Play music instead of playing to male egos – especially you religiosorockers.

3 Smart serious. The penetrating gaze is supposed to say “deep thoughts and cool licks,” but might also say “We haven’t quite gotten over our own importance yet.”

4 On the train tracks. Variation of barren, sparse look, but even more clichéd. Choo-choo.

5 Sunglasses indoors. Variation of tough. You just don’t need them.

6 Everyone looking in different directions, and, of course, the one person gazing pensively upward into the clear blue yonder. Why?

7 Fun. As long as band members are not all jumping in the air at the same time, this can be one of the safer routes to go. You can do it folks, just smile.
